Audio Auditing is an independent, privately owned company which owns the intellectual technology to provide an accurate and continuous computerised monitoring service of the broadcast of pre-recorded radio and television advertisements with MediaMark as well as music and music videos with MusicMark
It does not matter whether you are a large corporate advertiser, small ad agency, media buyer, recording studio, music and jingle composer or voice artist, AudioAuditings watermark technology has benefits to offer you.
Audio Auditing has been operating in South Africa since January 1992 and enjoys the co-operation of media owners Africa-on-Air, e-TV, M-Net, Primedia, RadMark, United Stations and the SABC.
Monitoring of these stations has previously been done by means of Audio Auditings proprietary pattern matching algorithm-based detection system, but in keeping with the latest international developments in digital rights management tools, Audio Auditing has developed a more advanced detection technology.

Audio Auditing has recently patented watermarking technology MediaMark and MusicMark which allows instant recognition by the decoding equipment of an unique code embedded in the audio. This inaudible code is repeated every two seconds throughout the watermarked audio, and is therefore tamper proof and extremely robust. This is a technological progression of the digital pattern matching system which has been successfully used by Audio Auditing to monitor radio and television broadcasts since January 1992. It also brings with it certain advantages not possible with the digital pattern matching system currently in use.

Audio Auditing encourages all electronic media advertisers to begin watermark their commercials. Encoding of a unique watermark into the audio of the commercial is a free service by means of Audio Auditings web-based Java Encoder.
Once the advertisement has been watermarked, the code will be picked up by Audio Auditings detection systems whenever it is flighted.
Audio Auditing will keep this detection data stored for a period of three years. This enables the advertiser to request any of Audio Auditings services should the need arise during this period. This is particularly useful from a financial auditing perspective, should the advertiser seek verification of their ad-spend and return on investment for any particular product, campaign or period.
In order to run Audio Auditing Java Watermark Encoder software you might be required to install Sun MicroSystem's Java runtime Environment, to do so please go to www.java.com. The actual audio is watermarked by means of small echoes of the original audio embedded within the audio track, advertisement or programme. The human ear cannot perceive small echoes in quick succession of the original sound, so the watermark is inaudible to a human being. Secondly, the watermark, being echoes, is part of the audio and similar to it. Therefore,to remove the watermark one has to destroy the audio. So it is very difficult, if not impossible, to eliminate the watermark without destroying the entire audio segment.
Decoding is best done by using 4 - 6 seconds of audio, in which case the channel response (bass and/or treble boosts/cuts, graphic or dynamic equalisation) can be cancelled out.
The Advertising Agency instructs the Recording Studio to produce and watermark the advertisement.
The Recording Studio logs into the Audio Auditing website and enters data relevant to the advertisement i.e. Ad Code, Client, etc.
Audio Auditing supplies the Recording Studio with a unique watermark code and the Java encoding software (89k) in seamless real-time via the Internet.
The Recording Studio watermarks the advertisement and forwards the advertisement as per usual to the Media Owner.
The Media Owner broadcasts the advertisement and it is detected by Audio Auditings detection systems.
Audio Auditing matches the detected watermark code to the Audio Auditing database of advertisements to determine the specific ad that was flighted.
Audio Auditing then matches the detected advertisements to the flighting schedules/contracts supplied by the Advertising Agency and produces the Detection Report and Compliance Certificate.
